Richard Sowerby

Richard Sowerby is a historian of the early Middle Ages (c. 500-1100), and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. His first book, "Angels in Early Medieval England" (2016), was awarded the inaugural Ecclesiastical History Society Book Prize, and the International Society for the Study of Early Medieval England Best First Monograph Prize. It was also shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society Whitfield Prize. His work seeks to better understand the ways that early medieval men and women thought about the world in which they lived, and to explore how their beliefs, ideas and values changed during the first millennium CE.
