David Mandler

Born in Budapest, Hungary, David Mandler moved to the United States in 1990 as a teenager with his parents and an older brother. He earned his Bachelors degree in English and French from Brooklyn College (1996) and subsequently completed the M.A./Ph.D. program in English and American Literature at New York University (2005). He has since authored a number of scholarly articles on Arminius Vambéry that appeared in various journals, a scholarly book entitled "Arminius Vambery and the British a Empire: Between East and West" (2016) which has been translated into Hungarian ("Kelet és nyugat mezsgyéjén: Vámbéry Ármin és az angol Birodalom") and a book called "The College Essay Guidebook: Writing a Powerful Story about Yourself" (2017). His other published writings include articles in The Budapest Times and a short story called “The Loft” (available on amazon.com). He plays the cello and the piano. He is also a singer. Dr. Mandler taught English literature and composition courses at Touro College for close to a decade before becoming an instructor of English and Theory of Knowledge at The Baccalaureate School for Global Education in Queens. He has been on the faculty of the English Department at Stuyvesant High School since 2010. He has recently completed a collection of poems entitled "Circular Six" and a novel, "The Plunge" (stay tuned for details on release dates). He is currently working on another novel. He lives with his two children, Benny and Rachel, in Brooklyn, New York.
