John C. Frank

After being introduced to kayaking by his wife in 1991, John quickly fell in love with paddling in the Apostle Islands. Fulfilling a 20-year quest to visit all of the major islands, he felt indebted to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore for providing an escape to natural beauty and wilderness solitude. After retiring from the practice of law in 2012, John had time to research and write Apostle Islands Water Trips – An Explorer’s Guide and Two Decades of Memories as a partial repayment for that indebtedness. He has assigned all royalties from the book to Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Inc. a group supporting the National Lakeshore.

John says, "Apostle Islands Water Trips is the guidebook to the islands I wish I would have had at the start of my visits to the Apostle Islands with a map, camping, hiking, and shoreline information, and interesting facts about the history and geography for each island. Along with the guidebook information, I have included a short account of a kayaking or camping trip experience to each island. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy reading the stories about my interactions with nature, other humans, and Lake Superior as much I enjoyed writing them."
