Dr. Robert Chen

Dr Robert Chen was born in Medan, Indonesia. At age 17, he and his father and sister ran away to Canada as they were slaughtering the Chinese during the communist period in Indonesia. He then went to grade 12 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, went to medical school (University of Alberta) and practised in northern Canada, northern Ontario and northern and coastal British Columbia. He has always been interested in teaching. thus even during his family medicine residency at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, he had medical students, nursing students and Nurse Practitioner students attached to him.

He volunteered in India for 2 months, then to Thailand for 2 years (Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Bangkok). He moved to Malaysia 14 years ago, and has taught in the undergraduate medical school program as well as in the Post-graduate in Family Medicine at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for 3 years, them moved to help Monash medical school established in Kuala Lumpur for another 3 years. Now, he teaches at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) for the last 7 years. While at UTAR, he discovered that many medical school lecturers are from India and Myanmar, where the teaching method is usually didactic. That is when he decided to write a book on "How To Make Your Lectures Fun and Memorable" to share his knowledge and experience in teaching.
