I spend most of my time at Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute, trying to ensure that humanity survives and thrives, that our common future is filled with flourishing, joy, and adventure.

But I also love generating ideas, characters, situations, and even, sometimes, melding them together into full consistent stories. I tend to see the story as revealing the character of the protagonist, rather than them having a pre-defined character with which to face the events.

I've always been fascinated by the old myths and the ancient gods, and regularly imagine what they would do, faced with a world as radically different as our own - with still some faint traces of the old order. What would Mars think of all the wars he had to choose from? Would Loki get along with the other trickster gods like Coyote? (This is Loki, so, no). But, more importantly than that, how would they adapt to becoming insignificant, and, more woundingly, to their ethics and commandments becoming ignored?
