Constance McKoy

Connie McKoy is Marion Stedman Covington Distinguished Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She grew up in Fayetteville, NC and in 10th grade attended St. Catherine's Episcopal Boarding School in Richmond, VA. Upon graduation, she attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she received the BM in Music Education. She returned to NC and began her public school music teaching career, which spanned 18 years. She taught general music, choral music, and band to students in grades K-12, while managing to earn MM and PhD degrees from UNCG. After teaching for one year at the University of Southern Mississippi as a visiting assistant professor, she accepted a position at her university alma mater, where she has been teaching for 20 years. For her contributions to music education, McKoy received distinguished alum awards from Oberlin Conservatory and the UNCG School of Music. She is a past-president of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and a past chair of the Society for Music Teacher Education. When not writing, teaching, or performing, McKoy loves to knit and is a classic movie fan.
