Andrea Hetling

Andrea Hetling (PhD, University of Maryland, College Park) is a tenured Associate Professor at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. Dr. Hetling’s research focuses on the implementation and efficacy of U.S. social welfare policies. She is particularly interested in the impact of programs and policy on the economic well-being of families and women living in poverty and on survivors of intimate partner violence. Her work has appeared in various academic journals, and Home Safe Home is her first book. Dr. Hetling holds a number of leadership positions in the field of poverty research including an appointment as a Research Affiliate of the National Poverty Center at the University of Michigan. She also works with a number of civic organizations, sharing her research and expertise and supporting their efforts to improve social service programs.
