Yves Corbiere only became captivated by superheroes as an adult. As a child she preferred horses. “Mimi and Ky: The Beginning” is her debut novel.
Yves suffers from chronic Lyme disease which she was diagnosed with 5 years ago when she woke up screaming because she couldn't feel or move her right leg. She has now mostly recovered her health due to the hard work and dedication of many healthcare practitioners in a variety of disciplines including acupuncture, herbal medicine, massage, yoga, and allopathic medicine (an amazing MD).
Lyme sufferers, and many others, will recognize much of what Mimi encounters in “Mimi and Ky: The Beginning” including having a career and expectations knocked off course by sudden illness and having an illness that no one else can see but that controls her every move. "I've spoken to so many people who have a variety of illnesses but many of the same struggles. I wanted to write a version of our story that is authentic but in the context of a fast-paced adventure because I have found unbridled fun to be one of the most important things in my healing process! Plus, when you're sick, your dog really is a superhero. That's not fiction."
Yves grew up in Guilford, Connecticut, a coastal New England town with a passion for soccer, sailing and high school orchestral music. She now lives in Fayetteville, WV which she finds to be a hotbed of creativity and support for creativity. “Living here, I feel like I have a glimpse of what it was like to live in Paris in the early 1900's, except that Fayetteville only has 3,000 people! Writers, musicians, artists, political activists and athletes seem to be magnetically attracted to this small town. It's the perfect place to write a novel.”
For all you francophiles and French speakers who are wondering, Yves got the spelling of her name from Jacques Cousteau. She was an "Eve" until at age 4 she saw a documentary featuring Jacques "Yves" Cousteau and insisted on changing the spelling. She doesn't remember the incident.
