Chervis Isom

As a working attorney and author, Chervis has spent countless hours over the past five years visiting and recalling the Norwood community of his childhood and youth on the north side of Birmingham, Alabama. During the course of writing his recollections, he addressed the evolving issue of race relations in Jim Crow Birmingham.

But the thrust of the book is his own evolution from growing up in a racist household to becoming a social activist. Writing the memoir led him to move from the suburbs to downtown Birmingham, where he is active in community affairs.

Chervis Isom is a member of the Alabama Bar and senior counsel with the firm of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz.
