Roy Uprichard

Roy Uprichard was born in Belfast, and, as a mature student graduated from Queen's University and went into teaching. Prior to that, he had to work for a living.

In 2010, in a partially successful assault on middle-age-spread, he trekked part of the Annapurna circuit in Nepal and began to write. The Himalayas must share responsibility for this.

Their peaks then led to the flatter mountains of the Camino Frances, and he left teaching to become an author, wine-taster and Camino enthusiast who loves to share his experiences with those who cannot walk.

This led to him publishing his travel memoir, Restless Hearts - Walking the Camino de Santiago, in 2016, his first venture through Amazon.

This was followed in May 2017, by 'Stone and Water -Walking the Spiritual Variant of the Camino Portugués' about his walk through hidden Galicia, on the trail of saints and scholars. It's available in both ebook and paperback.

In 2018, he published the Spanish version of 'Stone and Water' : 'Piedra y Agua' .

His latest passion has been exploring on (and off) the various routes of the Camino Portugues, and their Celtic connections with his home in Ireland.

This resulted in 2021's 'On (and off) The Portuguese Way - Celtic Connections - Galicia, Ireland and everywhere.'

And 2024's 'Boardwalking the Caminho Portugués da Costa - Highway to health - Porto to Caminha.

In 2021 retook a different path - in 'Surviving Christmas by Loving Advent - Making Peace with the Incomplete.' A retelling of some of our Advent stories - and personal reflections from Northern Ireland.

He hopes to continue walking, writing and wine-tasting. He lives in North Down.
