John Roach

John Roach is the Presiding Judge of the 296th Judicial District Court of Texas. In this capacity he has heard thousands of family law/divorce cases. He has witnessed where couples have made the right choices in resolving their divorce and where other couples went wrong. John's wife, Laura, is a family law attorney and mediator who has also seen thousands of family law cases. She also has witnessed the devastation a divorce can have on couples, kids and finances.

They decided to embark on a journey to revolutionize the way couples approach divorce. Rather than go down the route of the traditional, adversarial way of resolving a divorce, John and Laura explain the alternatives to a court-dominated divorce including informal settlement conference, mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.

They contrast these proven methods to the traditional way of getting divorce and provide helpful tips on how to resolve specific issues that often pervade divorces including division of property, spousal support, child custody, child visitation and many others.

It is their sincere hope that families can avoid the destructive family law court system by using the methods and tools set out in their book.
