I've been asked multiple times why I write about pirates... I wish I had an interesting answer, something such as I was taking a voyage on a tall ship amidst a glistening ocean, the story was derived by the glorious vessel sailing beautifully into the blue-green harbor of a tropical island, alas, the answer is that the story I began to write in 1996, as I sat down in my kitchen in front of an old IBM laptop computer, just popped into my head. The characters I wrote about weren't the courageous knights-in-shining armor or glamourous princesses, as I intended for them to be, they somehow spun a web into treachery and romance. They brandished swords and pistols with secrets hidden in their shadowy pasts, a mysterious treasure lost but not forgotten, with a seductively dashing hero standing as captain aboard a ship and a rebellious, beautiful heroine who refuses to be a damsel-in-distress, dastardly villains lying in wait for that perfect moment by which to strike and became what I truly never imagined...they became pirates.
