Hello! I’m a speaker, writer, and counselor who empowers parents with a framework for resilient Christian parenting that will equip and motivate you to build a family that can stand strong together. Being a parent is not getting any easier, and raising children who deeply love God and want to follow Him has perhaps never been more challenging. Families today face rising pressures from many different directions, and too often even Christian families fall apart with tragic, long-lasting consequences for everyone involved. Parents need a clear, biblical framework of parenting you can use with confidence to build a resilient Christian family that can stand strong in the face of life’s storms, while you enjoy the beautiful relationship God has planned for you.

Parents that I talk to are looking for rock solid answers. You’re asking, “If the Bible is the manual for how to parent, then why am I so unsure what to do with my child? What am I missing, and how do I put it all together?” You love your family, but you’re tired of fighting with your child, fed up with your child’s behavior, worried about your child’s choices or lack of motivation, and you want to know how to parent and how to do it better. That’s what Resilient Christian Parenting is all about!

For over 30 years I’ve been involved in Christian ministry, including a number of years as a missionary in a tribal village in Guinea, West Africa, which severely tested our own family’s resilience leaving us reeling with questions and doubts and in need of a clear way forward, particularly as parents. A few years later, when I went back to school for my master’s degree in counseling, I began to study resilience as it relates to families under pressure. As a counselor, I wanted to give parents more than just platitudes; I wanted to know what really works for families so that parents who are facing tough times and difficult parenting challenges can know how to parent through the storms, without losing their kids or their confidence in God’s plan for their family. Also, I wanted to help parents understand how to parent in a way that would significantly lower the risk that their child would choose harmful behavior, thereby avoiding many of the storms a family can face.

A wealth of resilience research has been done with families, particularly with children and youth who face difficult challenges, that shows what works in raising children and building a family that is strong and resilient. As I studied these characteristics of resilience, it quickly became clear to me that each of these concepts is actually a biblical principle. Merging these into a framework that parents can use to build a resilient Christian family has been the focus of my research, writing, and teaching these past few years.

I’m passionate about helping people make it through the tough times of life. I believe that we can be confident as Christians that everything in our lives was filtered through the hands of the Almighty God who is himself Love, and that He has equipped us and daily strengthens us to bring Him glory, even in the most challenging situations. In my life that has played out in so many ways as I’ve found God faithful in every situation, from the joys and trials of missionary life in Africa, to being bedridden for months with an undiagnosable illness, and on through the everyday trials like traffic, mean people, and the flu.

I want you to be encouraged to stand fast, no matter what you’re going through. I know that as you learn this biblical framework for parenting and apply these principles from God’s Word, you will move forward in parenting with increased confidence, joyful endurance, and steadfast hope.

I live in Atlanta with my husband, where I wish I could exist on dark chocolate and good pastries, but instead eat way too many green, leafy veggies. Really. Way. Too. Many. My favorite things to do are anything with my family, and I’m just a bit over the moon in love with my grandchildren!
