During December 2013, after many years of working in the NHS finance sector, I made the decision to kick off my writing career as a way of recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered in the November.
My first novel, Defibrillator Dollybird; has been described as an entertaining romp! I hope it will be enjoyed as such for many years to come.
It was certainly a fun way to distract me from the affects of the cardiac arrest and subsequent fitting of an ICD.
I always wanted to record the major events in both my, and my late father's, life and subsequently completed 'Salute The Flag' based on merchant shipping and;
my third novel, 'To Hear A Blackbird Sing', spans the life of a country boy who, seeking adventure, enrols in the Royal Artillery in 1939. His first posting is to the Far East and when he steps ashore in Hong Kong, having never left his home county before, he thinks he has landed in heaven. Unfortunately his utopia quickly turns into a living hell.
The story includes an account of actual life in both a Hong Kong and Japanese POW camp. I think the story is an important part of the past which I hope will not be forgotten.
And to think I started out writing simply as an aid to recover from illness!
I am at the moment (Oct 2021) recovering from successful mitral valve surgery but unfortunately I suffered a stroke during the surgery; (it never rains but pours...). However, as a fan of Georgette Heyer I can immerse myself in her world as a way of temporary escape while I recover.
I am always looking for ideas to bring to a new novel so we will see what the future holds.
