Miriam Drake is a professional visual artist, counselor and world traveler. She has written several works of nonfiction, and may add fiction to that list sometime in the future.
Living abroad in Ecuador with my husband was wonderful, until he had a stroke. Then he needed bladder surgery and a month after that his gallbladder was an emergency surgery. I was alone armed with high school Spanish and a will of steel to help my dear husband get better (he never improved). During that year of high stress and surprises, I learned a lot about what happens to expats in foreign countries, and decided to write down everything I had learned and ideas I had for how expats in Cuenca, Ecuador could create systems of guidance and support for themselves, and know which resources in town had been vetted. I offered the book and seminars to expats there from 2015-2018. Many lives were saved.
People may think that because they live in developed countries and have insurance that bad things can't happen to them. This not the case. Everyone everywhere needs to develop a system for themselves so they can have the best possible outcomes. This is especially the case for people living alone. Because people are living, traveling and retiring abroad, and living their lives unaware, I have put together an international edition in which I put information about documents, people, and processes that the reader will need to attend to in order to keep safe in all healthcare systems everywhere! If you've ever dodged a bullet in a healthcare system, you know what I mean. The book, "Medical Emergency Preparation Manual: Healthcare Planning for the Adventure Lifestyle: Expat, Nomad, Retiree, Homebody" is available on Amazon as an e-book and as a Kindle book. Purchase your's today and visit my FB page "Expat Medical Emergency Preparation". Please like and follow us. If you are interested in requesting an online seminar covering the information in the book, please let me know. If enough people are interested, we can do this!
With regard to other books on other topics I am working on: On the drawing board are: "With Dog, Will Travel", an unbelievable story of a midlife woman's search around the globe seeking life's meaning and a new beginning; and "I Will Always Love You", a story of true love, so crazy and wild it could only be nonfiction. Lastly, a book detailing the secrets and joys of oil painting written by a wise old painter.
