Gerald Briscoe was born in Ottawa, Kansas, on December 8, 1932, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Ottawa High School in May of 1950. After spending three years in the Navy, he entered pharmacy school at Kansas City School of Pharmacy in January 1954. He transferred to the University of Kansas in September of 1955. He graduated in June 1958.
He married Judy Hobbs on September 21, 1958. They have three children: Cathy Allred (Neil), Kara Patchin (David), and Ron Briscoe (Debby). They have seven grandchildren, Kate Patchin Davis (Ben), Alec Patchin, Micah Patchin, Nathan Allred (Allison), Emily Stice (Luke), Sterling Briscoe (Erin), and Katie Briscoe, as well as seven great grandchildren: Madison and Bryson Allred, Carter and Landen Stice, Gracie Cuomo and Kynlee McAndrews, and Averi Briscoe.
After graduating from pharmacy school, Gerald worked with his father, Guy Briscoe, at Briscoe Drug Store in Ottawa. They sold their store in 1969, and Gerald and Judy moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where they still reside. Gerald retired from pharmacy on October 28, 1997, after working at Sentara Leigh Hospital for 21 years.
