Paul d'Arc Garty

Paul d’Arc Garty resides in rural Eastern Tennessee with his family, his dog (a rescued Border Collie) and a host of rescued cats. He grew up on the shores of Lake Erie, where he swam on the team at Monroe High School, Monroe, Michigan and raced sailboats in the summer out of Monroe Boat Club. He was a jock who played piano, sang in the church choir, and wrote poetry. He later graduated from the University of Michigan, where he wrote more poems and a book of parables. Thanks to his mother, he still has a single copy of the book. He had a variety of careers in the automotive and food industries and also taught engineering and mathematics in college. He traveled through Germany and France during his career in the automotive supply industry and traveled the United States extensively during his career in the food industry. These environments and experiences enrich the stories he writes.

He has poems and short stories published in Imaginary Gardens, and won an award for best fiction from the magazine. He is occasionally a member of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild and the Tennessee Mountain Writers.

He collaborated with HannahBelle Thomas in the writing of Kaia Daughter of the Sea and Myth and Muse. The collaboration began in a creative writing class when they were each assigned to write a modern fairy tale and agreed to write on the same subject. Paul asked for permission to use one of HannahBelle’s characters from a previous assignment. When they read each other’s stories, Kaia Daughter of the Sea was born. They are collaborating on additional stories.
