I am an avid fan of sword and sorcery, science fiction, and epic fantasy literature. My favorite material is from the old pulps written by authors like Robert Howard (Conan), Norvell Page, Jack Williamson, and later, Karl Edward Wagner (Kane), Lin Carter and John Norman (Gor).
I was inspired to write because I began to notice that true sword and sorcery fiction had largely disappeared and also, writing styles were becoming cliche, campy and simple. No longer could one find the brilliant, poetic word-smithing so prevalent in the old writers. I set out to create something reminiscent of their style and type of story. Ironwrought is my first book and I believe I have hit the target in the bulls eye, though it would be arrogant of me to assume that I have the same mastery over words as someone like Howard. Still, it isn't written on an eight-grade level and shame on any writer who writes an adult novel in such a way. It only contributes to the demise of our language and our culture.
I was told, "Write what you know." Well, I am a law enforcement officer with twenty years on and a retired military man. I have boxed, wrestled and taught hand-to-hand combat to police officers for ten years and studied several forms of martial arts. I know violence; what it feels like to feel pain, impact, cuts, unconsciousness etc.
Ironwrought, true to this brand of fiction is graphically violent and graphically human. If you are looking for something different from the mainstream, I think you will like this.
