Leila Dutt Sen was born in Calcutta (Kolkata), India, at the end of WWII. They were the final days of the British Raj as India embarked on her fight for independence. Her father was Bengali, and her mother was of Armenian-Greek-Coptic descent. Schooled in Loreto Convents Lucknow, Darjeeling and Calcutta, her favourite pastime was adventuring into the world of books and, encouraged by the nuns at school, she began turning her vivid flights of fancy into her own uniquely colourful stories and poems. After completing her degree in English and Education, she joined British Airways and spent the next sixteen years flying around the world.
With her love of nature's beauty and all things whimsical, she has put together two collections of poetry:- 'Canticles: A Collection of Poetry', includes poems that won 'America's Best' two years running. From 'Faerie Gossip and Faerie Song' the Tourist Board of Wales has selected her poem 'Faerie Glen' for their home page. Her children's book, 'The Enchanted Land of Far-Beyond' is soon to be published.
Inspired by the story of her parents during WWII, Leila has recently completed and published her first novel, 'Where Destiny Commands/The Aegis of Kali: 1939-1945, A Time of Love and War'. The writing of their story was a labour of love, and she has dedicated the book to their memory.
Leila lives in San Francisco with her husband, Ronjon, and their family of rescued pets in an old Victorian called Storybook Cottage.
