Janet Marquardt

Janet T. Marquardt is distinguished professor emeritus in art history and women’s studies from Eastern Illinois University. She continues to research and write while living in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was lead author of a thematically-organized survey textbook for art history with McGraw-Hill and has written numerous essays on exhibitions of women’s contemporary art. Her main focus, however, has been the historiography of medieval art history, i.e., how it developed, with an emphasis on France. She is currently studying archival materials from nineteenth-century American Protestant missionaries to the Near East in order to understand how both the evident colonialist attitudes and early humanitarianism affected international relations today.
