Liesl Ungnade

Being in the mountains is second nature to Liesl Ungnade. She was born and raised in New Mexico, the daughter of Los Alamos author and scientist Dr. Herbert Ungnade. She climbed mountains with her father until his untimely death in 1965. After leaving Los Alamos in 1968, Liesl spent 46 years working in health-related professions as a registered nurse, a paramedic, a college instructor, and as a legal nurse consultant. She has hiked to the top of New Mexico mountains, climbed 14,000’/4267 meter mountains in Colorado, hiked into the Grand Canyon, and explored canyons throughout the southeast Utah desert. Liesl is currently enjoying retirement in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico where she continues to hike and write. The Guide to the New Mexico Mountains 50th Anniversary Edition is her first book.
