Lisa Yonge Lacy

Lisa Yonge Lacy is a Mississippi native, educator, and writer with a lifelong fascination with family history. "I am still as mesmerized by pictures and stories from the past as I was when I was a young girl," she says.

Her passion for genealogy and storytelling deepened after she and her family moved to the Mississippi Delta in 2015. Immersed in the landscape and heritage of the region, Lacy began writing family memoirs that captured the stories passed down through generations. She has since written two books: one that includes stories about a Civil War hero who happens to be her great-great grandfather, and another that tells the story of a great uncle who was a decorated officer in the Korean War.

Lacy has fond memories of visiting relatives in Agricola, Mississippi, just a few miles from historic Brushy Creek, and in Corinth, Mississippi. Her ancestors and their stories figure prominently in two family memoirs, A Promise on Brushy Creek and To All the World.

She earned undergraduate degrees in Home Economics and Marketing from Mississippi State University and holds a Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences from The University of Alabama. She later completed an Ed.D. in Professional Studies: Higher Education from Delta State University. Lacy serves as an adjunct faculty member at Delta State University in the School of Teacher Education.

Married to George County native Richard C. "Curt" Lacy since 1992, she and her family eventually returned to their home state and now reside in Raymond, Mississippi. Through her writing, she hopes to encourage others to discover and preserve their own family stories - stories of love, courage, hardship, perseverance, and even humor - that help shape who we are today.

"My great-great-great grandfather Peter McLeod and two brothers were headed to Texas from South Carolina. Their mule died during the trip, forcing them to stop in Mississippi. It was there that Peter met his future wife, Nancy Ball. If that old mule had not died when and where it did, would I be here today? These are the great questions of life."
