Eugene V. Grace, M.D. is usually referred to as Gene Grace by his colleagues in ophthalmology as well as in literary circles. In the former, he has made his reputation in cataract, corneal and retinal surgery and is now most concerned with the prevention of glaucoma blindness. In literature, he is basically a poet: long ago he devised the American sonnet and many of his poems are in that form. Much other work is in the original fusion-fiction of his seven novels.

Eugene v. Grace, M.D. corrects an article on corneal transplants that he did with Dr. Sam Mcpherson in which catgut sutures were used. That paper was published in the Southern Medical Journal in 1961. Much has changed in corneal surgery since then, just as in glaucoma treatment. Eugene v. Grace, M. D. is not to be confused with the Gene Grace in South Carolina who is a well known dentist and political donor. This Eugene V. Grace is an ophthalmologist who, in recent years has followed his interest in glaucoma in its various forms. His concern is not only in treating this condition of permanent visual loss and blindness, but also in its prevention.

Eugene V. Grace has written several books in different genres: The Most Beautiful Love Poetry in the English Language is his answers to Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s sonnets from the Portuguese. The Subjective Biography of Bifford Debs, M. D. which records the atonement and redemption of doctor Debs, he has written mainly in the fusion-fiction genre which he initiated, including the six other books in that genre. Yet, glaucoma continues to be his chief concern, in which he has spent the last fifty years.
