Prior to starting her own business, Debbie was a member of the founding team of Odyssey HealthCare, Inc. where she served as Chief Operating Officer. Debbie was instrumental in preparing Odyssey for it's initial public offering in 2001, one of the first post-911 IPOs traded on NASDAQ. During her 12th year of tenure at Odyssey, Debbie was diagnosed with advanced breast and lymph node cancer. Her treatment and uncertain prognosis limited her ability to travel and to continue in her role at Odyssey. Her 2008 cancer diagnosis presented many physical challenges for Debbie and her family. She and her husband, Bill, were busy meshing together two highly visible and demanding careers - his as a college president and hers as a business executive. The diagnosis changed everything. With a life-limiting prognosis both resigned their jobs and moved to Athens, GA, a special place of solace and great memories, located within driving distance of her surgeries and treatments at Emory Winship Cancer Center in Atlanta. Debbie shares so many stories and evidences of God’s divine plan to use her cancer diagnosis to accomplish His will in her life and prepare her for sharing her story to the benefit of others struggling to understand, “Why Me?” During this period of time Debbie became involved in the local Community Bible Study class. Debbie was called into leadership and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Community Bible Study, an international and non-denominational not-for-profit organization.Debbie earned a University of Georgia, a post-graduate certification in Public Health Administration from the University of North Carolina, and attended Wake Forest University’s Executive MBA program.
