Alicia Suarez Holt

Alicia Suarez Holt lives with her husband, her son, and her pet German Shepherds Cappy Bear, and Misha Bunny in Salinas, California. She came to United States with her immigrant parents as an infant from Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico in the 1950s. She grew up in Kingsburg, a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California during an era of wonderful children’s stories. She recalls listening to her teachers read some of the most amazing children’s books of the 20th century. Ramona the Pest and Pippi Longstocking were two of her favorite story characters. She credits her early experience with wonderful children’s literature for helping her to learn English well enough to become a school teacher. For the Past 29 years, she has taught school at La Joya Elementary School in Salinas, California. Alicia enjoys writing poems, stories and songs for her students. Her students, past and present, have been her inspiration for wanting to publish books that entertain and teach something important at the same time.
