I am currently a high school teacher in the south Bronx, where I've taught at the same school since 2007. I was born in 1975, and grew up in Fullerton and Buena Park in Orange County, Southern California. I've been writing poetic prose poetry for many years, and just finished my first collection, "Open the Doors," in March of 2016. It's been a long time coming. My mother passed in June of 2015, and I finally realized that this life is too damn short to not do the things we love. So, I put the book together, with the help of my wife/friend/editor. On Saturday, March 19th, I went to the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe and performed in a three-round slam poetry competition, in which I won (by a slim margin). The prize, however, is the confidence I've gained from getting back up on the stage to perform. I was born for this.
I am in the process of creating children's books from poems I have written for my daughter. Stay tuned.
