Portia Porter

Portia Porter is a lawyer and a doctor. Her Ph.D. is from The University of Chicago; her law degree from University of Virginia. She practiced corporate and antitrust law with a top New York Wall Street law firm, then opened her own divorce law practice in Ducklingburg, South Duck.

It was at that moment, that she discovered that she knew nothing about the real practice of law.

Portia Porter practiced divorce law on her own for many years, handling all sorts of divorces. There were divorces worth over hundred million dollars -- and divorces where the client's sanity was the only asset. There were rich clients and poor clients. Husband-clients, wife-clients and girlfriend of the wife clients. There were devout clients and nudist clients. Through all this beautiful variety, only one thing remained constant: all of them managed to stiff her.

Over the course of her career, Portia has been stiffed in sums large and small... but it was after she sent a futile invoice for nearly $100,000, — yes, a roughly a hundred thousand buck, — she had a realization.

Portia realized that the stiffing clients were not the problem. At least, not entirely. She herself was the problem. And, likewise, all the lawyers who let their clients stiff them had a problem. Scam victim lawyers all had something in common. And it was something that could be identified, systematized, and mocked. That year, Portia Porter sat down to write her famous Law Practice Management Guide.

"How to Stiff Your Divorce Lawyer" helps young lawyers by identifying those traits and biases of character which get them conned and stiffed in the first place.

Since the day her book came out in print, every client of Portia paid in full. She learned her lesson -- and made sense and system out of it. She thinks that anybody who reads the book will too be a better businessperson for it.
