Michael Willems

Michael Willems was born in the Netherlands, grew up there and in the United Kingdom, and has lived in Canada since 1995. He has worked in 40 countries on five continents, as a photographer. an engineer, and a business executive.

A full-time photographer, author and educator, he is a well-known keynote event speaker, and teaches privately and to small groups, and at colleges and schools including Sheridan College of Art and Vistek. In past years, he taught at the School of Imaging and the Niagara School of Imaging (NSI).

He has written for a number of photography magazines, and his work has appeared in The Globe and Mail, the National Post, The Toronto Sun, The Toronto Star, BBC, The Hamilton Spectator, West of the City, and many other newspapers and magazines. He has won a number of photography awards and has exhibited widely, both in solo exhibits and as a member of the "Photosensitive" collective of Canadian photojournalists. His books are read all over the world.
