My passion is philosophy, community and saving the planet. I write fiction and non-fiction. The Sydney Morning Herald called me an 'eco-writer' but I am interested in all the large ideas. My niece said of me 'Paula can see the wood as well as the trees".

Fiction is where it is at for me.

My idea of a great time is a philosophical discussion, as long as we all keep our minds open. Or swimming in the ocean. Or watching young children's minds expand.

I was exposed to anti-war sentiments by my wise and forbearing grandfather who had been a stretcher bearer in the trenches of France in the first world war, because he refused to carry a gun.

When I was 17 I met a new best friend who had just studied philosophy at Sydney University and she introduced me to existentialism which somehow made me see that we can be free agents.

At the age of nineteen I left Australia with my young first husband and we spent 15 months travelling through 26 countries going overland from Sri Lanka to London.
