Most of my coloring books are done in a "Grayscale" style. This means that some shading has already been done. Coloring over this shading creates more depth of color for the finished pages. This is not the same style as traditional line art type coloring books and does use different techniques. There are many tutorial videos on YouTube describing these techniques.

Also, some of my coloring books are intentionally darker than others. This is to keep the darker, Gothic, aesthetic of my original artworks intact. I highly suggest taking a look at the back cover of every book I publish as I always add example pages.
