Artress Bethany White

Artress Bethany White, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of English and the author of the collection of poems, Fast Fat Girls In Pink Hot Pants (2012). She has received The Mona Van Duyn Scholarship in Poetry from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, The Mary Hambidge Distinguished Fellowship from the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts, and a Postdoctoral Faculty Fellowship from the Appalachian College Association. Her poetry has appeared in Appalachian Journal, Mud Season Review, Mom Egg Review, Harvard Review, Black Renaissance Noire, The New Guard, Menacing Hedge, Poet Lore, Ecotone, and is forthcoming in Pleiades. She was nominated for a 2014 and 2015 Pushcart Prize in Poetry and was a finalist for the 2014 Knightville Poetry Contest. Her recent nonfiction can be found in Blood Orange Review and The Hopkins Review. Additionally, her critical work can be found in the anthology, Seeking Home: Marginalization and Representation in Appalachian Letters and Song (University of Tennessee Press, 2017) and Literary Expressions of African Spirituality (Lexington Books, 2013). She resides in Philadelphia, PA.
