Wayne Robert Hanson was born in Denver, Colorado, and grew up in Iowa. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Radiation Studies in the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, Dr. Hanson did a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in Medicine and Biology at Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, IL. Honoring his parents’ repeated requests to finally get a job after thirteen years of study; he was hired by Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago as an assistant professor and director of research in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He finished his professional career as a tenured full professor and head of research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Loyola University, Chicago. Dr. Hanson served as president of the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society and was awarded the National St. George Award in 2003 for contributions to the control of cancer.
The author and his wife retired to Gualaceo, Ecuador in 2007. They relish their visits to the Chicago area to see their daughter, her husband, and their two grandchildren; however, they are guiltlessly happy to live in Ecuador. They are enjoying every minute of retirement, or at least fifty-nine seconds of every minute. All things considered, that’s pretty good.
Photography and trying to control two Dobermans along with three other dogs on three acres of mountain side seems to keep us busy, but funny events over the last 9 years let to the book entitled: You’re Retiring to Ecuador? Are you Loco? I hope you enjoy the book.
