Michelle Flaum Hall

Michelle Flaum (b. 1974) is an author, Professor of Counseling at Xavier University, and professional clinical counselor and health care consultant at Hawthorne Integrative, LLC in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Flaum's expertise includes medical trauma, therapeutic communication and empathy, mindfulness, and training health care and mental health professionals in interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Flaum's work has appeared in numerous journals, books, and trade publications, including Psychotherapy Networker, Counseling Today, Nursing for Women's Health, Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice, and Learning Communities Journal. She has developed clinical assessment tools for the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative and the Council on Patient Safety in Women's Healthcare, and has told her story of near-death following postpartum hemorrhage for the Association for Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses as part of the national Postpartum Hemorrhage Project. Dr. Flaum is an strong advocate of integrative healthcare models and believes that an important key to providing effective, compassionate, and responsible healthcare is to ensure that mental health professionals are part of treatment teams.
