Lieut. Colonel Bruce Stevens is strongly passionate about the kingdom of God and particularly energised by opportunities to develop effective leaders. He is also a survivor, having undergone major surgery for IVC Leiomyosarcoma in 2018, which included an auto-transplant of his one fully working kidney.
Prior to becoming a Salvation Army officer, Bruce worked as a Corporate Tax Consultant and those business skills have proven to be a great asset in his subsequent ministry. Bruce holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and was accepted as a Certified Practising Accountant in 1985.
Commissioned as an officer in 1992, he has previously served in corps (church) and administrative leadership appointments. Bruce brings a broad range of experience to his current role as State Leader of The Salvation Army for Victoria, Australia. He also provides leadership as the Executive Officer of the Melbourne Staff Band, one of the premiere Salvation Army brass bands in the world. This is a role he greatly relishes and provides many ministry opportunities.
Married for 39 years to Debra, they have two children. Kerry is married to Glenn Smith and they are Salvation Army officers. Mitchell is married to Sally and they are also officers. Bruce and Debra are blessed with five grandsons, being a source of great joy for them.
Bruce enjoys a wide range of sports, relishes the opportunity to use his musical abilities and continues to have an active interest in the finance industry.
