renee c. hoogland was born and raised in the Netherlands where, for many years, she taught English Literature and Culture at the University of Amsterdam and Cultural Sexuality Studies and American Studies at the University of Nijmegen. She moved permanently to the United States in 2007. hoogland is currently Professor of English at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where she teaches literature and culture after 1870, critical theory, visual culture, and gender & queer studies. Since 2012, she has acted as the editor of Criticism: A Quarterly For Literature and the Arts.
