Born and raised in Seward County Nebraska, Edward Walsh left the family farm in 1942 and became a member of the 242nd Field Artillery Battalion. Following the war, he attended Nebraska Technical School and operated a service station for 25 years. Married with two sons, seven grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, Edward wrote the account of his military service at the request of his family. With the help of his wife Jeanne and grandson Vince, two different 242nd websites were created. Serving the Pieces is now available in 2nd and 3rd editions each with a photo cd and also as an EBook. 2nd edition and 3rd edition CDs are each different and contain hundreds of labeled photos. The CD with the second edition of the book contains photos from training through combat in Europe. The CD with the third edition of the book contains training schedules, 242nd reunion information, victory ship newsletters etc.
