Carl Olson

After teaching at some large universities, Olson began teaching at Allegheny College in 1981 where he offered courses in eastern religious traditions, comparative philosophy, and method and theory in the study of religion. While at Allegheny College, he has been appointed to the National Endowment fo the Humanities Chair (1991-94) and the Teacher-Scholar Professorship of the Humanities (2000-03). He has travelled and lectured in India and Japan. in 2001-02, he held a Visiting Fellowship at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge before being elected to Life Membership of Clare Hall. During stays in England, he has given lectures at Lancaster University, Cambridge University, and delivered the Walstrom Annual Lecture at Oxford University. For nine years, he served as book review editor for the International Journal of Hindu Studies. In addition to his editorial work and books, he has published over 220 essays in journals, book anthologies, and encyclopaedias. In the near future, he intends to devote time to comparative studies of the self, human body, and power.
