Hamed Ekhtiari

Hamed Ekhtiari, MD, PhD is trained to be both psychiatrist and neuroscientist. He is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and associate director of the Medical Discovery Team on Addiction (MDTA) at University of Minnesota.

His special areas of interest include interventional psychiatry (targeted brain stimulation for hard to treat psychiatric disorders) and addiction medicine/psychiatry, but he is also a passionate author and public speaker. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications in prestigious scientific journals and over 30 book chapters and books for both specialized and public audiences.

Hamed received his MD and then PhD in Neuroimaging at Tehran University. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship on Biological Psychiatry at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research, Tulsa, OK and his Psychiatry Residency at the University of Minnesota.

While seeing patients as a licensed psychiatrist in the clinic, his lab is dedicated to develop innovative neuroscience-based therapeutics for psychiatry disorders with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, neuroscientists, physicists and clinicians.

Hamed has two kids with his wife Sara (pediatric dentist) and both enjoy communicating about the brain and body and their amazing capacities with their kids and other kids as it is reflected in Hamed's books available on Amazon.
