Gerald Hickman

Gerald was born in Idaho in 1944, so he is older than dirt. Growing up on a wheat ranch he gathered data for his book, Good Times in Old Genesee or a Tale of Two Families on the Palouse Hills.

He graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Wildlife Science. Gerald taught high school students for 9 years and then followed his educational training in Wildlife Management for the State of Washington Fish and Wildlife Department.

After retirement he went to work for the National Park Service and then the Department of the

Interior working on desert bighorn sheep, Endangered fishes of the Colorado River and the Threatened Desert Tortoise in Nevada, Arizona and California.

Writing has been part and parcel of his working and retirement years. He enjoys writing for magazines such as Outdoor Life and Gun Week, and has over 60 scientific articles published

in Biological Journals.

Fishing and outdoor activities were topics often chosen for composition and history topics are one avocation that is easier for him to write. His Father, Ormond, was a great amateur historian and his example helped develop Gerald's interest in Western History especially about the Indian Wars and survival on the Frontier.

Future books will deal with the Indian Wars of the Pacific Northwest, the Sioux Uprising of 1862 in Minnesota and his experiences working as a Wildlife Biologist/Manager. He hopes to complete five more books before he turns eighty years of age.
