EK Jasmine

Karen E Chin (pseudonym EK Jasmine) is a Caribbean author and literary mentor based in the Cayman Islands. She is best known for her commitment to nurturing young creative talent through the Cayman Young Writers’ Competition, which she coordinates annually. The competition provides a platform for children aged 10 to 17 to explore the power of storytelling. Under her guidance, it has grown into a vibrant celebration of youth literature in the region.

As a writer, Karen crafts stories that blend heart, heritage, and imagination. Her work often reflects the warmth and complexity of island life, with themes that explore identity, resilience, and the quiet strength of community. Whether writing fiction or working behind the scenes to encourage others, she is driven by a love of words and a belief in their ability to uplift and connect.

Outside of her writing and mentoring, Karen is a dedicated reader, an advocate for literacy and creative education, and a strong supporter of Caribbean literature. She continues to build spaces where new voices—especially those of young people—can be heard, celebrated, and encouraged to grow.
