Larry Short is a trained journalist, published author, and digital media innovator who retired from the Christian humanitarian organization, World Vision, after nearly three decades of service. He launched World Vision's internet program in 1997, its first employee intranet in 1998, and created many of the online products contributing today to its success as the third largest nonprofit fundraising site in the world. Before retirement he pioneered an internal communications platform for leaders and led a twice-monthly webcast where senior executives engaged with the organization's top 5,000 leaders.
Prior to joining World Vision, Larry owned small technology businesses and conducted a freelance writing career. He wrote numerous, award-winning articles for Christian magazines and co-authored several books on church health and growth along with Dr. Robert Logan. He wrote an historical fantasy novel while in his 20s, and is currently working on a science fiction novel.
The most important people in his life are his Savior Jesus, his wife Darlene, his two grown children and his granddaughter. Today Larry and Darlene live in the Pacific Northwest, where he serves as a deacon, technologist and worship artist in an historic church. After retirement he also worked as an AVID tutor and health screener for the local school district. In his spare time he works on his novel and other writing projects, cycles, hunts wild mushrooms and trains others to do so, mentors young adults, leads acoustic worship, and enjoys life as a grandpa.
