John Lamb

An American artist, John Lamb is a self-taught animator whose animated shorts featured some of the earliest skateboarding and surfing sequences. In 1979, "Tom Waits For No One", a rotoscoped music video featuring Tom Waits and his song "The One That Got Away" was completed.

In 1980, Lamb received an Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement for co-invention of the Lyon Lamb Video Animation System (VAS). Lamb would later co-found Animation Controls and has continued to work in the arts and animation related fields over the last three decades.

In 2014, Lamb's solo art project "Blast from the Past" opened at LinkSoul Lab in Oceanside, California. In 2015, "Tom Waits For No One: The Illustrated Scrapbook" was published, featuring the art, history and inspiration behind the film.
