Lev Z. Vilenchik

Dr. Lev Vilenchik is a world known physicist specializing in the quantum field theory, nuclear physics, physics of macromolecules, chromatography and drug development. He was Professor at the USSR Academy of Sciences and after moving to the United States in 1988 was a professor at Purdue University and MIT, as well as Principal Scientist at different companies including Monsanto, Schering-Plough, and Merck among others. Dr. Vilenchik graduated from Leningrad State University, USSR in 1962, and holds Ph.D. and Doctor of Science Degrees in Physics and Mathematics. His mentor was professor Vladimir Fock, one of the founding fathers of the quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics. During his career, Dr. Vilenchik published a number of patents and over 100 publications in peer-reviewed scientific international journals. Among those are manuscripts "Chromatography of Polymers" and "Modern Liquid Chromatography of Macromolecules".

Currently, a new book by Dr. Vilenchik "Quintessence: A Thermodynamic Approach to the Phenomena of Nature" is published in 2016 by Nova Science Publishers. The conception of the "Entropic Interaction" (described in Wikipedia's article "Entropic force") is introduced in the book. The book describes a fundamentally novel approach to understanding the phenomena of nature from the standpoint of classical, relativistic, quantum physics, and cosmology. Regularities of the living and inanimate worlds, as well as interactions between these two worlds and within each of them, are described. Special attention devoted to health problems, placebo effect, hypnosis, eastern medicine, alternative medicine, manual therapy, and contactless therapy. It is shown that for every phenomenon (even seemingly supernatural like telepathy, telekinesis, mirages, remote viewing, predictions of events, influence on the events, getting longevity, effects of yoga, reiki, and Emotional Freedom Techniques, contact with extraterrestrial civilizations, UFO problems, etc., described in the book as well), one can find a scientific interpretation. Quoting Albert Einstein: "The scientific search is a constant race away from magic".

The book is written in the popular science format to be comprehended by the general public. However, it might be attractive to individuals with diverse academic backgrounds including physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, medicine, education, religion, and alternative medicine. While the mathematical interpretation is not the main focus of the manuscript, for those mastering in mathematics and physics, the detailed mathematical description is included in the Supplementary sections.

Follow the contents of the book, six articles by Dr. Vilenchik were published in the following scientific journals.

Article "Entropic Essence of Nature" was published in "International Journal of Theoretical Physics, Group Theory, and Non-linear Optics", Volume 17, Number 4, pp. 295-307, 2017. The article is devoted to the formation of the Universe, the negative gravity at the moment of the Big Bang, quantum entanglement, heat conductivity, diffusion and other regularities of Nature. These regularities are considered under a new point of view which do not negate the laws of Nature known to us but explains their existence, proceeding from a deeper understanding. Four fundamental interactions (gravitational, electromagnetic, strong and weak) are treated as affiliated from entropic interaction that is considered as a quintessence of Nature. The introduction of real-life entropic interaction offers further explanation of the regularities, lets us give a definition of time, establishes a correlation between change of entropy and rhythm of time, and allows to extend laws of physics to the human being.

Article "Psychological Treatment as a Manifestation of Thermodynamic Principles" was published in "International Journal of Psychology Research", Volume 11, Number 2, pp. 125-132, 2017. Psychotherapeutic effects are considered here as certain disturbances in the patient's brain that lead to the formation of a distinguished temporary energetic “structure” that in turn leads to an entropy decrease. The usual trend is a continued increase in entropy associated with the tendency of the brain to return to its original state. Such a trend generates processes in the body that lead to a result that standard psychotherapy treatment is focused on. Once the desired improvement in the patient's condition is achieved, the introduced temporary energetic “structure” disappears from the brain.

The article “Coexistence of Short-Range and Long-Range Actions at Interactions of Material Objects and Phase Transitions” was published in the Journal of Nature Science and Sustainable Technology (JNSST) Volume 12, Issue 2, 2018, pp.131-139. In the article, the introduction of the concept of entropic interactions revives the Newtonian idea of long-range action in the material world. The coexistence of the long-range and short-range actions is explained by the entropic interconnection between all objects of Nature in accordance with the chosen version of the Mach’s Principle and property of the entropy as a positive countably additive function.

The article “Entropic Change is a Ruler of the Biological Time”, was published in the "Journal of Nature Science and Sustainable Technology (JNSST) Volume 13, Issue 1, 2019 pp. 47-55. In the last paper, an explanation of the existence of the biological time is given from a standpoint of Thermodynamic Approach. The biological rhythm of time in living organisms is explained by their entropy changes. These changings regulate all the physiological, biological, biochemical, and physical processes that affect vital functions. It is shown that by altering the entropy we can control these processes, and hence the biological time. This opens up new possibilities in slowing the aging process and for the treatment of diseases.

The paper "The emergence and evolution of the Universe" was published in the "Journal of High Energy Physics, Gravitation, and Cosmology", Volume 5, Number 3, 2019. In the paper, the cosmological picture of the World is complemented by the inclusion of virtual objects, the phenomenon of the mass defect, entropic interaction, and bifurcations. During the period before the emergence of our Universe, space is considered as an infinite homogeneous multifold of virtual point objects with a certain energy and are capable of transitioning into a real state of certain masses, electrical charges, and sizes once at irreversible local fluctuations of density and energy. The existence of such virtual point objects is explained on the basis of the mass defect phenomenon known in nuclear physics and the fact that resultant sum of all forces acting on the object is equal to zero at the homogeneous space. It is shown that the entropic changes caused by irreversible fluctuations should have led to bifurcation and produce the “Big Bang” event with the emergence and subsequent evolution of our Universe. The probability of the set of bifurcations and consequent “Big Bang” events, the origin of the corresponding Universes, the time of their occurring, and initial localization is discussed. Objections against the emergence of the matter from nothing and ignorance of entropic changes in the process of the emergence and evolution of the Universe are discussed as well.

The paper “Thermodynamic Basis of the Alternative Medicine” is published in the ”Journal of Alternative Medicine Research”, Volume 11, Issue 1, 2019. In the paper, Alternative medicine is considered as a peculiar bridge between physics and usual medicine. The human body is identified as a thermodynamic system for which all laws of thermodynamics are carried out. Diseases bring a human organism out of an equilibrium state, creating in him the structural formations lowering its entropy. Treatment by usual and alternative methods stimulate emergence in the organism processes (or their intensification if they already are there) which destroy painful structures, increase entropy and return the organism in the equilibrium state.
