I have had a long, wonderful, and evolving relationship with the world of history resources. My undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees are in history, but I teach in the area of library science, so my current approach to history is that of enabling access. How and why do our patrons/researchers/readers access their family stories, local history narratives, and primary documents held by local studies centers, historical societies, and archives? How should cultural heritage outreach programs foster the growth of personal archiving, local history writing, and experiential local history activities? I teach currently at Clarion University of PA and work with graduate students who are interested in local studies librarianship. I am always amazed by what my current and former students are out there doing in local special collections across a wide variety of institutions!
