I grew up in the Middle East and went to boarding school for my last few years of high school. Soon after graduating from college, I moved to New York City, where I won a writing grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and moved to Los Angeles.
I was influenced by the general California zeitgeist to get a dog, hike every day, get hooked on yoga, eat piles of organic vegetables and marvel at myriad examples of baffling human behavior. So I do that every day. I also work in entertainment (which gives me lots of opportunity to observe people's weirdness while ignoring my own).
I'm a nationally certified Emergency Medical Technician and I foster puppies for the Westside German Shepherd Rescue.
The Academy: Alignment is my first published book after 25 years of writing in every other form, and it's the first of a series that began as an hour-long TV series. Much of it is taken from my experience at boarding school (which was memorable in many ways, but not the ones you expect), although my experience there did not include the book's psychotic personalities, unimaginable wealth, unlimited access to self-medicating narcotics or supernatural influences.
I have a short blog on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/14773798.Andra_St_Ivanyi/blog
