Lynnette Dickinson grew up in Sydney, Australia, rowing and sailing on Sydney Harbour while dealing with chronic bronchitis, asthma, the results of a near-fatal tick poisoning and later, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Endometriosis. In 2004, after the birth of her third child, immigrating to Britain and her Annus Horribilus…and a half, when she didn’t think life could get any worse, Lynnette had a complete physical breakdown and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
During this hospital stay, Lynnette experienced deep and profound peace in in the context of excruciating pain and dysfunction, and began using her own version of meditation to manage the crisis in which she found herself. This began her journey of inner transformation.
After returning to Australia and another MS event in 2006 that left her in an electric wheelchair, Lynnette again experienced a moment of profound peace while in meditation, in the midst of pain and dysfunction and decided to join a yoga teacher training program to learn how to live in this peace and teach other people in crisis how to live in peace, regardless of their circumstances.
Nine months after beginning her yoga teacher training, Lynnette returned her electric wheelchair and went on to finish her yoga teacher training, complete meditation teacher training and establish a small business, Splendour Yoga.
Lynnette is living her dream of teaching people in crisis how to find peace regardless of circumstance with a range of classes for people with chronic conditions and mental health issues, offering yoga therapy, and has begun expanding by teaching in schools, retreats and hopes to offer her teaching even more broadly in the future. Lynnette’s goal of sharing the message of acceptance, surrender and peace continues.
In A Journey to Peace through Yoga, Lynnette writes about her experiences of spiralling into chronic illness and her recovery, with humour and irreverence, as well as offering tips and practices for readers to find their own journey, combining the benefits of modern medicine with the ancient wisdom of yoga and meditation.
The first edition of A Journey to Peace through Yoga has touched many people’s lives, inspiring people to find the peace and joy in their lives.
Lynnette now lives in Canberra, parenting, teaching yoga, riding her electric bike, bushwalking and has recently learned how to ski. Who knows what adventures are ahead?
