Sidney Rehg

Sidney Rehg was born in 1987 and grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he recently returned to pursue his performance poetry career. He has always been interested in multiple art forms, and originally went to college as a jazz performance major. Unsure of his path, Rehg left his first university in Carbondale, Illinois and attended Texas Tech University before returning to Carbondale to complete a Communication Studies major. While completing his degree, Rehg found his first home in poetry at the Transpoetic Playground, meeting weekly with local poets in the Carbondale area. During his time with Transpoetic, he assisted in the launch of Curbstomp, to bring a second weekly space for local poets.

After living in Carbondale, Rehg returned to Saint Louis to discover a growing poetry community. He is now a member of the UrbILL Dialects slam team, and a member of the East Saint Poetry Slam team. He will be competing nationally in the 2016-2017 slam season. Rehg finds inspiration for his work through observation of the environment around him. His poetry ranges from intimate personal narratives and shared dialogue of personal experience to observation of social construction and trends permeating society. His first book, Citrine Dreams, is a transparent experiment of self-discovery within moments of past that linger into his pursuit to remain present.
