As an artist I have won the Governors Award as a painter and the Delta Award as a sculptor. My work has been shown at the American Institute of Architects, The National Building Museum, and with Louis Meisel in NYC. My pieces are in the collections of Bruce Springsteen, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins.
I am also dyslexic and failed just about every English class I ever sat in. There is a certain man-bites-dog charm to my writing books, but beyond that, little in my deep background speaks in my favor. Around age 50, I got access to a computer for the first time and began to write. I have finished four novels, two books of memoir pieces, and a play. I also wrote a column for the local arts paper for five years.
I have two young boys who keep me in line. I would not care to write anything which would cause them embarrassment. They were instrumental in writing Cooler, a Wizard of Oz for the new millennium.
