Da Zain

The name Da Zain is a phonetic transliteration of the German word dasein (from da "there" and sein "being") which means the state of presence, of being there. It denotes an author engaged with the world as mediated through the flow of her artistic projects.

Da Zain is a writer and visual artist with a significant experience in Animation where she developed the colour schemes of a range of films and TV shows. During the years of constant exposure to colours, she noticed that an inexplicable sense of well being gradually settled into her, no matter what. She ascribed it to her work which she saw as a kind of "colour therapy" but, of course, this is wild poetic speculation. Nevertheless, she decided to develop a series of colouring books to promote the state of active meditation that working with colours meant for her.

Her love of the fascinating world and history of art inspired her to introduce some of art's less known greats to the colouring book artist. She remembered how, as a young child, training for the art school entrance exams, she would copy great masters and thus tap into their style and soul. This promoted deep learning and appreciation of the artistically beautiful. By adapting the works of art masters for the colouring book, she would bring together meditation with learning and channeling, in an unforgettable holistic experience for the sophisticated colourist.

Her first colouring book, "Creative Colour Inspirations: Alfons Mucha", introduces the Czech born artist who initiated the Art Nouveau movement in Paris. Currently, Da Zain is working on the second book in her series of colouring books as well as on a series of short stories and a humorous how-to book.
