I currently live in Salem Oregon at the moment but when I was a resident of Houston Texas I taught music lessons to kids after school while working my way through college at the University of Houston. After teaching many students from the music studio where I worked, I realized that I had to make my own teaching materials and lessons to help my students learn and progress in a way that made sense to them. I wrote this book because I saw a important need for an organized curriculum that had lessons in a logical order because there was no existing drumset curriculum that I could find anywhere. Through my students I have seen just about every type of mistake that can be made while learning the drums so I started to anticipate and correct my students tendencies and mistakes before they would even make them with explanations and curriculum that I'd made myself. Over several years I have been able to combine my knowledge and articulate the concept of what I call "rhythm theory". So I decided to compile the best of all of my teaching tools, explanations and materials that I have acquired over my career to publish them in a curriculum and print it as a book that anyone can buy. The Language of Rhythm is divided into seven chapters and each chapter represents a student's level at the drums; from beginner to advanced. This book mostly includes illustrations of sheet music but it also includes chapter overviews with explanations for each lesson and it contains assisted writing exercises at the end of each chapter. This book would be an excellent tool for anybody that wants to learn or teach the drumset. I had a lot of fun writing this book and I hope it helps you on your rhythmic journey.
